Caroline and Colin met at the University of Cincinnati where Colin was an undergraduate and Caroline was starting a graduate program. Caroline and I attended Indian Hill High School together and our friendship really took off when she moved back to Cincinnati. We would drink Bloody Marys most Sundays and enjoyed our early 20s together in Clifton. It was during these Sundays where I would repeatedly hear things like “I am NOT getting married before 30” or “I am just not interested in a relationship right now”. I would just nod and go along with it. Now Colin and I met freshman year at UC where we both rushed the same fraternity. My first memory of Colin is his admission that he went to Dayton Carrol high school and for all those Indian Hill soccer players reading this story, that is a red flag. Colin did help me tie my tie for formal events, so I am forever thankful for that.
Fast forward a couple years and the stars began to align. I moved into a house with Colin, and at the same time Caroline had found her way to UC’s campus. At this point I knew Colin to be a starry-eyed romantic looking to find a nice girl. One night, our house was planning a night out in Clifton, and I invited Caroline over to join us. We had a great night filled with plenty of festive cocktails and around 2AM, Colin told me about his interest in Caroline. So, naturally I gave him her number. Caroline woke up the next day to a lovely worded text message (desperate am I right?) from Colin. From there, we all started hanging out more and we all wondered if our sweet Colin was ever going to make his move. Now, being the nosy friend that I am, I would ask Caroline on the side “would you go on a date with him, he is a really great guy!” and would get some of the previously stated “not looking for a relationship” responses. I thought to myself…okay okay, we will just have to see. Eventually Colin and Caroline went on their first date, then went on several dates, and before I knew it, everyone was asking me “so are they dating!?!”. Every single person I knew at UC said those two were meant for each other. My favorite story was one Sunday when Caroline was coming over for a Bengals game and her dad dropped her off thinking she was watching with me, but I was just a mere decoy for a date between the two. Somewhere along the line they made their relationship official and once we learned, we all sung out “FINALLY”! We could see the writing on the wall that these two were going to be spending a long long time together.
