Mikey was called in at midnight on a random Tuesday to watch his dad and his surgical team save a patient with a ruptured aortic aneurysm. That’s when he first met Jess, an energetic third year medical student who was enthusiastically trying to show him the ropes. After a few more “chance” hospital encounters, he was impressed and wanted to spend more time with her. He finally got the nerve one day to steal her number out of his dad’s cell phone. Their first official date (outside the hospital) was at a local sports bar watching her favorite football team, The Baltimore Ravens. The rest is history.

Almost all of their families were together in Florida for Noche Buena, the annual Christmas Eve party at his grandmother’s house. Mikey waited until almost the end of the night where they traditionally have a “White Reindeer” gift exchange. He organized with his mom to be the first person to grab a gift from the table. As he opened the gift, he walked slowly towards where Jess was sitting, surprised her and got down on one knee and asked her to marry him.
