THE PROPOSAL

September 30th, 2021

Our proposal story: Three years, four months, and 25 days (1244 to be exact, not that I was counting); after becoming an official couple, Mitch decided to pop the question, my response was a resounding “Are you really doing this?” not the reply he was expecting. After a secret meeting with my Father to request his blessing, Mitch spent months searching for my perfect ring. Not without a bit of help from one of my best friends, Brandi. Working as a team, they were able to query me for what I would like in a ring all the time, keeping me from recognizing what was actually going on. Once the ring was in hand, all that was left to do was find the ideal moment. Once again, Mitch and Brandi set out to make sure I had the proposal of my dreams. Weeks of scheming (I mean planning) behind my back, they decided the “picture-perfect” place would be Stone Mountain Park, a location that holds a special place in both our hearts. The date was scheduled, but unluckily the weather was unaware of the plan and decided it would be a great day for a torrential downpour. Not to be deterred, another date was quickly selected, but this time it was not the weather that got in the way; instead, it was me. I had no time to go to Stone Mountain, having a mountain of school to get through and my sister’s wedding coming up just a few days later.

THE PROPOSAL STORY CONTINUES...

The more they pushed me to go, the more I did not want to go and just could not understand why hiking was so darn important. Subsequently, unknowingly destroying that plan meant Mitch was left coming up with a new one entirely. On September 30th, 2021, the day after my sister’s Florida beach wedding, Mitch woke up early and suggested we do our morning bible studies on the beach. Wholly unaware, I accepted the offer, and we made our way, bibles in tow. As I sat on the beach, Mitch asked me to read a specific verse out loud (Proverbs 18:22). Admittedly if I was as dedicated to reading my bible as I liked to me, I might have figured out what was happening; spoiler alert, it’s a process. Reading the stricture aloud: “22 He who finds a wife finds what is good and receives favor from the Lord.” I looked up at Mitch about to make a joke like “You should take a hint” and realized he was on his knees to the ring in hand. My initial response of “Are you really doing this?” was quickly changed to “Yes!”
