For our Philly area guests, flying out of Newark (EWR) is often the cheapest option. For flying into Ireland, there are two main airport options: - Dublin Airport (DUB) - Shannon Airport (SNN) Both are about the same distance from Sligo, but we recommend flying into Dublin as it will be easier to get to Sligo from Dublin via train. For anyone planning to leave the day after the pub crawl, we recommend considering flying through Shannon. Most U.S. flights are overnight and land early morning Ireland time. Flights from the East Coast are ~6.5 hours and effectively land ~12 hours after takeoff. In other words, if you leave at 6 PM East Coast time, you will land at 6 AM Ireland time.
Flying through Dublin? Take a scenic 3-hour train ride to Sligo for about $30. Trains in Ireland are comfy and offer a chance to relax, take in some Irish countryside views, and even squeeze in a nap to fight off jet lag. You can catch the train from Dublin Connolly Station, which is accessible from the airport by taxi or bus (taxi recommended). Flying through Shannon? Unlike Dublin, there is no train directly to Sligo from Shannon. Your options would be either to rent a car or take an Uber. Sligo is about a 2.5-hour drive from the Shannon airport.
After the wedding, we’re heading to Galway on Thursday, 7/8, to keep the celebrations going! 🥂 A coach bus will be provided for any guests who intend to travel with the group. If you plan to attend the pub crawl, please fill out the Pub Crawl Form on the "More to Celebrate" page.
Overall, public transportation can take you just about anywhere you need to go in Ireland, but renting a car is also a great way to explore at your own pace. Keep in mind you'll be driving on the left side of the road! For anyone attending the pub crawl, Galway is about 2 hours from the Dublin Airport & about an hour from the Shannon Airport. If you plan to travel home from Galway, then you may want to consider flying through Shannon, as it will be a shorter commute to the airport. For traveling to Dublin from Galway, you can easily take a train, which is about a 2.5-hour ride. Keep in mind that if you have an early morning flight, catching a train from Galway to Dublin is likely not an option. So either plan to have a car available early in the morning, or plan to take the afternoon flight if you intend to travel by train.
