It all started with basketball. Spencer caught my eye while playing JV Basketball in 2009 at Richmond Hill High School. I remember pointing Spencer out on the court and telling my mom how cute I thought he was. You could say I had a crush. So, of course, I had to find a way to talk to him without seeming so desperate. Luckily my Best friend Samantha was in a class with Spencer and had become friends with him. So, one night after a basketball game she introduced us. That night I didn't give Spencer the time of day, I looked at him, said hi I'm Rachel and turned away to continue the conversation I was having. (I had to play it cool, after all we were in Highschool) After "meeting" Spencer time went on and we started to talk on Facebook. I gave him my number, (without him asking for it) and told him to text me sometime. Of course, he text me immediately. We talked and eventually went on our first date. A few dates later Spencer asked me to be his girlfriend at the Great Ogeechee Seafood Festival on the Ferris wheel. It was a perfect start to our happily ever after.
The first time I met Rachel was after one of my first few High school J.V. Basketball games. I went to sit in the student section after the game and was briefly introduced to Rachel by her best friend Samantha who I shared a Spanish class with. When Sam Introduced Rachel, she was sitting with some friends in her warm-up, she had just played in a J.V. Girls game before me. It seemed as if she couldn’t give me the time of day, just as soon as she had turned to say hello, she was already turning away again to finish her conversation. I’d see her around the school in the halls but never got a good opportunity to talk to her. That changed the summer following my freshman year when she and Sam worked the concession stand for the Boys Basketball Camp. I got to hang out and get to know Rachel better and realized how much I liked her and wanted to get to know her better. One random day during the next school year she started messaging me out of the blue on Facebook. After a short conversation just as casually as she had started the conversation, she just gave me her number. It was going to be impossible for me to play it cool so needless to say it didn’t take me long to text her. The texting quickly turned from casual to daily and eventually led to a few dates. The night of the Seafood Festival, October 17, 2009, I made one of the best decisions of my life. On top of the Ferris wheel I asked her to be my girlfriend and the relationship that followed has gotten us here today.
After a long weekend with friends, Spencer convinced me to come home early and go to dinner with him and his family at Vic's on the River (one of my favorite places to eat). I agreed and came home early. When I got home I was so tired and asked to take a nap before leaving for dinner. I could tell Spencer was panicked I wanted to take a nap so I only took a quick nap while he showered and got dressed. I got up and got dressed rather quickly. I threw on the same outfit I wore the day before (I never do that) and fluffed my hair. While putting my shoes on Spencer asked if I would take a picture with him on the front porch so we could print it and give it to our moms for Mother's Day. Of course, I didn't say no! How sweet was it that he wanted to give our moms a picture of us. My mom and dad came outside with us. The front porch was lined with pink hydrangeas. We got together for a picture and before I knew it Spencer was on one knee next to me asking me to be his wife.
