The Portland Jetport is 2 miles from downtown Portland. It is also a 2 hour drive from Boston. From Boston, you can drive, take the bus, or the train.
There are plenty of hotels in Portland and South Portland. The pricing should be reasonable comparative to summer prices. There are also many Airbnb options if you prefer.

The Amtrak leaves from Boston North Station several times a day.

Concord Coach Lines
The Concord Coach leaves from Logan and South Station hourly. It takes about two hours to reach Portland. It is a very cozy bus and usually they have a funny driver. They offer water and snacks and movies during the ride.
