If you’re looking for a precise story about how they met, you might be disappointed. Nick and Claire wish they could point to an exact moment — a specific time and place where they first saw each other — but somewhere between the seven or eight years they’ve known each other, and the five-plus years they’ve been a couple, that memory has shifted from a certainty into a debate. What they do know is that it happened in New York City, most likely at a bar in Manhattan or at the apartment Nick shared with Claire’s brother (and their officiant) Will, in Astoria, Queens. The more interesting question, though, isn’t when they met, but when they realized there was something between them. They each have their own version of that story, but they both can agree, it began with small moments that built quietly over time — a deep friendship, a proposal, a wedding, and the marriage celebration you’re now invited to. For Nick, one of the earliest moments was a trip to the Jersey Shore. It was a big group — his roommates, a few friends, and Claire. At some point Nick realized he hadn’t seen Claire in a while, so he found an excuse to strike up a conversation. She was reading a book, so he asked about it. He’d love to say he was deeply invested in the plot, but honestly, he just wanted to talk to her. (The book, he later learned, was a “sappy” romance novel — make of that what you will.) A moment that sticks out for Claire was when she was in town for her birthday, staying in the apartment with her cousin Emily and her then-boyfriend. Nick had come home late, returning from a work trip. Despite being clearly exhausted, Nick tagged along to get some late night drinks. Claire, thrilled that Nick decided to join them, spent the rest of the evening talking to him, and admittedly, forgetting they were out with two other people. Fast forward a few months, Will told Nick and their other roommate, Matt (one of Nick’s groomsmen), that he’d be moving out — and that Claire would be moving in. To no one’s surprise, Nick and Claire began spending A LOT of time together. Then it was March 2020, and everyone left the city — including Claire. Nick stayed in the apartment, texting Claire while she was gone and realizing it felt a bit like losing a best friend, while she was back in NJ, feeling butterflies every time Nick’s name popped up on her phone. When she returned in August, they picked up right where they’d left off. By September, Nick figured it was time to test his theory that something real was happening. So, after his 30th birthday — with a little help from a drink and a nudge from friends — he kissed her. And that’s where their version of the story truly begins. They dated, quietly at first — dinners in the city, walks through the park. When Nick began appearing at Brzozowski family events her dad even suggested the two of them would make a good couple, months after they had already started dating (sorry Dad!). Then Nick got a job in Los Angeles and moved across the country. They spoke on the phone nearly every day for hours. Claire visited him. Nick visited her. Eventually Claire moved into Nick’s apartment in L.A., politely ousting his roommate Pat. And suddenly, they had built a life on the West Coast together. Nick and Claire will tell you there was never a single lightning-bolt moment. It was the culmination of small ones, steady, quiet, and meaningful, that made them certain they wanted to share their lives together. On August 9th, 2025, they were married in a private ceremony at St. Monica’s Church — just a few blocks from their home. It was small, personal and so special. And now, they are thrilled to exchange vows once again, this time in front of all the friends and family they love most. So even though this wedding celebration is one big moment for them, it’s ALSO part of a long line of moments that have made the last five years of their relationship — and nearly a decade of knowing each other — so meaningful.
