How We Met

02.26.16

To begin this story, Ramsey and I met on February 26, 2016, on the third floor of the technology building at Prince George's Community College…Yes. Community College. No shame in our game. I had been on campus for almost a year and within that year I met some random guy who I thought was flirting with me. Long story short he was just being friendly, and I went on to forget about him. However, that changed on one sunny day in February, it was in between classes when I decided to go to my favorite bathroom on campus in the tech building. Now ladies if you know, you KNOW about favorite bathrooms. Before I went in, I happened to see the person I thought had been flirting with me and I decided that I would stay in the bathroom long enough for him to be gone so I could go on about my day and not have to interact with him. By the time I left the bathroom, I thought I had stayed in long enough to avoid him. To my annoyance, he was still in the same spot he was in when I went into the restroom. So, to avoid this person, I came up with another brilliant idea and decided to go the opposite way out of the area. As I’m minding my own business and thinking about my next class, I hear “Excuse me?” So, I turn around and see this dude standing there with black Coke bottle glasses, a plain white T-shirt, blue basketball shorts, and some running shoes. He proceeds to say “Hi, my name is Ramsey, I’ve seen you around campus and thought you were really beautiful. What's your name?”. Now we are going to pause right here. After he said that I thought I had a secret admirer, knowing dang well I had never seen this man a day in my life. But he was very polite and spoke with such confidence I was super impressed. So, I tell him my name is Bryttney, and he says, "Oh that's a beautiful name, where are you headed?”. I told him I was headed downstairs, and he asked if he could walk with me, and I said sure, as we walked, he asked if he could have my number. I remember being so flattered and shocked that he was polite and thought that this kind of encounter only happened in romance novels or movies but no. It was real life and I figured hey, why not? I’m young and need to experience life. So of course, I gave him my phone number and went on about my day, constantly checking my phone and waiting for a text from him at some point. But I never got one that day and was kind of bummed about it. Now, I know what you’re thinking. Why didn’t I just message him myself? Honestly, I didn’t remember what he said his name was, so I didn’t want to embarrass myself. But luckily the next day he texted me and said Hi, this is Ramsey, and the rest is history. Fun Fact about this whole thing is, maybe a few months or years later he confessed to me that he wasn’t going to text me. But every day he tells me he’s glad he did.

The Proposal

07.15.23

It was family game night… Or so I thought! A week before the special event, my mother came up with the idea of a game night. Our family does game nights occasionally, so I didn’t expect anything out of the ordinary. Fast forward to the day of, my mother, grandmother, and I cleaned the house from top to bottom, getting ready for the family to arrive. I remember being so irritated and annoyed because the house was hot, and I was cleaning everything over and over again. My mother noticed my irritation and suggested I go take a cold shower and get myself together for the night. Listening to her, that's what I did. I took my shower, picked out a comfy outfit, and came down refreshed, but my hair was not the best looking, and the family that was there took notice of that and tried to convince me to do something about it. For some reason, I did not feel like making myself look too fancy since I was going to be around family. But the reason behind their persistence didn’t give me a clue as to what was about to happen later that night. After some thought, I went and fixed my hair just in case I was going to be on camera at any point. I know what you're thinking. I should’ve had some clue, but I did not. AT ALL. To continue with the story, all of my grandmother's kids and their families were in attendance, and I was shocked to see my uncle, whom we call the unicorn because his presence isn’t one, we see all the time. And even still, I had no clue. Ramsey's parents were even there. Everyone was, but again, I HAD NO CLUE. There were so many things that happened that should’ve made me think ‘Okay, something interesting was going on”. But no, I was too busy having fun. As the night goes on, we get to the games. My creative mother made a Jeopardy game that had topics that were relevant to the main reason behind the game night but not so relevant that they would be given away. We play the game and I'm answering questions. Little did I know that I had been answering questions that were clues to a proposal. At the end of the game, my mother called me to stand in front of the whole family. Of course, I was wondering why in the world she was calling me when she had everyone else to call up. So, I reluctantly went, and she hands me these cards that read... Wheel Mary. Bryttney. Ewe (adult female sheep). Me. Once I read the cards, I still wasn’t processing what they said. Until I read them a second time and it finally registered that I was being asked the sincerest question. “Bryttney, will you marry me?” My mom then called Ramsey up, and I turned around to see him on one knee with a red rose ring box in his hand. In that box was the most beautifully sparkly ring, and I cried so hard as he spoke to me. “We’ve been together for 7 years...”. I wish I could tell you all of what he said but I was in such a daze. I just know we both cried. See you at the wedding!
