How We Met

Each of our versions below :)

Bryton's Version

The first interaction me and Jenna ever had was indeed her telling me to “Shut Up” as I screamed at the movie Insidious. Which after 11+ years together seems… fitting. But even with that, there was something that I found so compelling about her, and I spent the next 8-9 months admiring her from afar. Going into my senior year of HS, our friend, Ivey was having a back-to-school party that I knew Jenna would be attending. I had to make sure I went to get a chance to speak to her (despite me having my wisdom teeth taken out just the day before and having to walk around spitting blood into a cup). From there I’d say we hit it off and I was quickly enamored. We would text, and I would do the cringe “of the times” flirting moves like tweeting “#OOMF is this or that..” PRAYING she’d see it. There was so much to like about her: beautiful, smart, athletic, funny…So, I was truly floored when our friend Lauren told me Jenna would be interested in attending Homecoming with me. We had a great night, and I spent the next couple months finding any excuse to see her. My favorite move was buying a McDonald’s frappe and bringing it to her parents’ house. We spent our time going on little dates around Sugar Hill/Suwanee, and I asked her to be my girlfriend officially while sitting in my parents’ driveway on 11/12/2012.   Jenna instantly became my favorite person and biggest supporter. We easily made it through the dreaded long distance college relationship times, always keeping a healthy medium of visiting each other but also enjoying our friends and college towns/experiences on our own. We entered the work force and moved back home, making a point to enjoy the extra time with our families and not rushing to move out and rent just to live together. One of our proudest accomplishments is saving up and buying our condo in December 2019 at only 23 and 24 years old. A year later we gained a very talkative and hungry roommate in our amazing cat Prince in 2020, who as most in our life know, we adore like a son. We have spent the years continuing to grow as people and in our love for each other. The time and opportunity just felt so right going into our trip to Italy over the summer of 2023, and with the help of Jenna and I’s amazing group of friends, I was able to put together the beautiful proposal that Jenna deserved. When I reflect, I know I am so fortunate to have found the love that many spend a lifetime looking for at such a young age. We truly have grown up together and experienced all the good and bad times that life has to offer. It has only made me stronger and more prepared to spend forever with the best girl I’ve ever met.   We spend our time with our loving family & friends, traveling as much as we can, playing tennis, watching movies/TV together, trying new restaurants, and obsessing over Prince.

Jenna's Version

Funny enough, our first interaction didn't go too well. The first thing I ever told Bryton was to, “shut up”…Maybe this was my idea of flirting at 16? Not the best approach. The next fall came a long and my friend, Lauren, was planning on going to Homecoming with one of her & Bryton's mutual friend. I told her I thought going with Bryton would be fun! Next thing I know, he is asking me to go to Homecoming with him. We had a fun night and I still vividly remember Bryton singing "Call It What You Want" by Foster the People to me on the way home. A few months later, we started officially dating on 11/12/2012. Since we were teenagers when we first started dating, most of our dates consisted of going to the movies, DQ Blizzards, watching American Horror Story & driving around our home town - Sugar Hill, GA. We bonded over our love of movies, food, prestige TV and sports. Oh & of course.. Bryton is pretty funny & handsome too :) Though we went to different colleges, we managed to find a good balance between seeing each other and enjoying our college towns. After we both graduated college, we moved back home and started saving up. In December 2019, we were able buy an apartment together in Sandy Springs, GA and got to live together for the first time. We have been able to create a home together which is something we had talked about for so many years. In December 2020, our cat Prince walked into our lives. Though Bryton is allergic to cats, he somehow has no allergies to Prince. We think of him as destined to be ours and has been the greatest addition. In July 2023, we took the trip of a lifetime to Italy with a group of our best friends. While we were in Cinque Terre, Bryton proposed to me looking over the sea and the beautiful beach town that is Monterosso. Our amazing friends and Bryton curated this proposal to be the proposal of not only mine, but truly anyone’s dreams. I said yes & we celebrated the remainder of our time in Italy. This trip will forever be so special to us. When I think of Bryton and the life we get to share, I feel so grateful. We have had the privilege of getting to grow up together and love each other through it all. After all this time, he is still my best friend. Our favorite things to do include: playing tennis, going to the movies, eating at well-reviewed (!!!) restaurants, spending quality time with our lovely friends & family, traveling, estate sales, farmer's markets, watching prestige TV (still), and doting over Prince & our niece Aubrey.
