Wild Gooses

How We Met

Brynne's Side: I first spotted Mike at Wild Goose in Costa Mesa while I was out with a couple of girlfriends and my twin sister, Cami — meanwhile he was there with his twin brother, Bryan. I tried to catch his attention first with a casual walk-by but he was characteristically locked in on a football game. Realizing he wasn't going to be the one to make the first move, I walked over to him with a brilliant pick up line, asking him if he was there on vacation. Classic. Thankfully, Mike picked up my fumbled line with a "Bless your heart." From there, we laughed the night away, and he asked me out on our first "real" date the next day. Mike's Side: I wasn’t expecting to meet the love of my life at Wild Goose on a random Friday night. I was out for a few spicy margaritas with my twin brother, watching a great college football game, minding my own business. And then Brynne walked up to me with that beautiful smile and asked, “Are you here on vacation?” Looking back it still makes me laugh. I've grown up in SoCal since I was 7 years old - what made me look like I was just visiting? I laughed and immediately said, “Bless your heart.” The rest of the night was amazing, filled with dancing, laughing, and a few more spicy margaritas - and somewhere in the middle of all that, I realized I didn’t want the night to end. So before she left, I made sure to get her number and texted her as soon as I got home. Plot twist - she didn’t reply. But, being a salesman, I sent up one more flare the next day—just a simple follow-up text. This time she replied immediately, starting the conversation that will continue for the rest of our lives.

Aloha Ever After

How He Proposed

Mike and I had been talking about marriage practically since the day we met. As I got to know him more, I felt as though I could finally put a face to the man I had always imagined — the one standing not just at the altar, but beside me through all of the adventures of life. Since month two of our relationship, we’ve done Surprise Dates — we switch off every other month and one of us plans an entire date start to finish as a surprise for the other. This particular surprise date happened to be in Kauai, and Mike made it seem completely casual, throwing me off any suspicions I might’ve had. We went to Costco together, he hit the gym, took a nap, and then told me to get ready for dinner and a cocktail beforehand. As you all know, we’re both identical twins — so when Mike suggested I wear an outfit to match his, I didn’t think twice. I put on my new Hawaiian dress and we headed out for a pre-dinner drink. Normally, Mike walks fast — his 6'2" stride easily outpaces my 5'6" average sized steps. But that evening, he walked incredibly slow, stopping every few steps to admire a rainbow or look at the surfers while I was rushing towards the promise of a mai tai. It wasn’t until I asked him to hold my phone and noticed a suspiciously square looking “wallet” in his pocket that things started to click. He took my hand, gave it a few nervous squeezes, and suddenly the moment I had been dreaming of was here. Mike got down on one knee, pulled out the little square box, and proposed on our beach. It was the easiest “yes” of my life.
