My Bestie of Honor
We were work friends, but when I was in my darkest hour, she didn't put me under her wing.....she showed me her wing was there. I had the faith in her (and remarkably, the good sense) to find shelter under it. Her love nurtured me in the form of good food, time spent doing daily activities and welcoming me into her family without question. She gave me space and also gave me a swift kick in the ass so I could find the strength in my own wings again. Now, among the aromas of the food we cook together, are laughter, insightful conversations, and the comfort to simply be silent, we grow together and flourish. I am a better person because of her.
Number 1
My first mate. Couldn't run the ship without the guy. Knows how to speak up if I'm out of line, play my bad cop, and how to make it so.
Bodhi
I met this guy on the road. Not that we were necessarily going anywhere specific to start with, but it's turned out to be quite the journey on the way to where the end becomes the beginning again.
Rock Solid Bestie
I knew when she claimed me as one of her people, because her love is tangible and unbreakable. Our friendship runs deep in our veins. I am safe to be goofy, and she is, too. We encourage each other to be accountable; not to the other, but to ourselves and who we want to be.
Soul Bestie
We lived three doors away from each other our 1st year at Guilford. Since then we have laughed, cried, laughed some more, cooked, and strengthened our bodies, minds, and spirits. My whole self is safer in this world because she expects and will settle for no more or less than who and what I am.
The Doctor
Observant. Level headed. Hops through space and time fixing wrongs, and soothing the fallout from those pesky fixed points. I know our life is bigger on the inside with her along for the ride.
Everlasting Bestie
She has always been a part of my family, and always will be. No matter how much time goes by without hearing each other's voices, I know that when we do, all the love and history will still be vibrant and present. (We disagree about how old we were when we met...7? 12? She has the world's best memory, so we'll go with her answer....which, of course I can't remember.)
Out of left field Bestie
In only my second year of living in Albany, I was grudgingly convinced to join a local, beer league soft ball team. I was, however, secretly hoping to make new friends. What I didn't expect was to find a friend so loving and loyal that 8 years later, I call one of my best friends. We have been through turmoil and pain together; though, with the help of laughter and joy, seasoned with sass and style, we moved through it and I think made it back to the shiny side of life.
