On October 19, 2019, Pueblo West High School hosted their annual homecoming dance. Brynlea was a freshman at the time, and Christian a sophomore. Christian came over to Brynlea's table and introduced himself. They danced together for a few songs and had a great time. Christian hugged Brynlea goodbye, and they both left that night not knowing they had found their partner for life.

Christian proposed to Brynlea in Breckenridge, Colorado. He took her to Sapphire Point which overlooks Dillon Reservoir. After patiently waiting for other tourists to leave the scenic spot he chose, Christian asked Brynlea to spend the rest of her life with him. She happily said "YES"!
