The best night ever. The two of us were in school at Southern Miss at the time. We were both at the same bar this night with our friends. Shout out to our close friend, Emily McDermott, for introducing us to each other. As soon as we met, we hit it off instantly. Bryce had told me about his summer plans to travel to California to live with his older brother for an internship. At the time, I was President of my Sorority and lived a pretty tight schedule and Bryce was busy with work and school also. We were excited for our first date but the only time we could coordinate was a quick lunch break during the week, so we decided on McCallisters. After a few dates together, a fraternity dance, a Spring Break trip, meeting both of our families, and realizing we did not want to be apart all summer, Bryce asked me if I wanted to drive to California with him and spend a few days before his internship started. So we set out on our 26hr drive from Hattiesburg to California. After a few days in California, Bryce asked if I wanted to go to a nice dinner in Laguna Beach. We walked on the beach afterwards and as the sun was setting Bryce officially asked me if I would be his girlfriend and the rest is history!
If you read the "How We Met" paragraph you know Bryce had big shoes to fill considering the way he asked me to be his girlfriend was a dream itself! Monday at work my Dad tells me that all the guys in our family are going to the Pelicans game on Friday together, meaning my mom and I get to make plans. We decided on the new rooftop bar at the Higgins hotel. I get home from work on Friday, March 6th to Bryce dressed in his Pelicans gear, pacing the house, with a white claw in hand. Meanwhile, I am complaining about going to a bar with no makeup on (I had gotten my lashes curled this morning and you cannot get them wet for 24hrs) Oh! and my nails were not done:) My dad picks up Bryce for the game and shortly after my mom picked me up to go to the rooftop. The entire car ride she is on edge, texting secretly, driving unusually fast, and not talking very much. We arrive to the hotel safely (somehow), and as soon as we walk in she darts straight for the elevators. I thought this was strange because scoping out a brand new hotel is right up our alley. We get in the elevators and as soon as the doors open, I see a worker I know. We start making small talk but in parting, he asks me if one of my friends was getting engaged because the hotel had been setting up all day. (what a goof!) I think to myself that it obviously wasn't me considering I thought it was going to happen two years prior (LOL!) Finally the conversation ends, he opens the elevator doors and my little brother walks out, but this did not throw me off one bit because this is not uncharacteristic of him. We finally are able to walk outside and the first thing I see is Bryce surrounded by flowers and candles. I immediately smile and think “HOLY COW..I AM THE FRIEND!!!" Bryce gets down on one knee, asks me to marry him, and slides the most beautiful ring on my finger that he designed with my mom. This night will be a memory I will cherish forever. We left a few days later for Hawaii and had the best celebration!
