I remember meeting Megan in First Grade, at Stearman Elementary. We went on to attend the same schools through the end of High School, with the exception of one year. Afterward, I would not see Megan again until our twentieth HS reunion... and honestly, with the amount of painkillers I was on for a badly infected tooth, I don't remember much of it. Now, it is important to our story that you know that I am not a big fan or participant in social media. I joined Facebook for the sole purpose of reconnecting with people around the time of the reunion, and I did not maintain much of an interest in seeing what other people were eating for dinner, or their "fabulous" vacations. That being said, I did not close my Facebook account. I simply didn't use it. Over time, I stopped getting the annoying email notifications that filled my inbox. One day, in February of 2015, I was looking through my email when I noticed a notification about a Facebook "friend's" birthday. I hadn't received one for a long time, so I looked at this one out of curiosity, more than anything. It was Megan's birthday. As soon as her page popped, I was intrigued... more so as I felt drawn to read more. I then did something that I almost never did... I wished her Happy Birthday! That led to a reply, which led to a coffee date, which led to a... well, you know. Now I am on the brink of marrying the love of my life, and becoming a family with her and two wonderful young women. I may continue to complain about social media, including Facebook, and bemoan how it is affecting our ability to relate to one another on a personal level, distorts perception, and so on, and so forth. However, for me it resulted in something wonderful, unexpected, and dare I say - Divinely inspired. Simply, it was the best birthday wish I have ever made.
