FAQs

Question

How formal is this event?

Answer

Attire for guests is requested to be at a minimum dressy casual. Pink, purple, red and black are all encouraged but not required. Silver and gold are also fun options. This is a wedding on Valentine's Day. The Bride & Groom will be in full formal attire. Women can wear dresses, a dressy skirt and top, or a pantsuit (styled with heels, nice wedges, or formal flats). As for men, a safe bet is a dress shirt and slacks, with the option to wear a tie. For both women and men, jeans and a collared or dressy shirt are also a good option, with boots, dress shoes or other dark-colored comfortable footwear. A coat rack will be available as this is a winter event.

Question

When should I arrive?

Answer

Please plan to arrive at 3pm. We strongly recommend ride share services when possible, Uber, Lyft, etc. Or car pooling with other friends or family. If you drive yourself, there is a small parking lot across the street from the venue, however we will largely depend on street parking in the West Bottoms, which will require a short walk to the venue. The ceremony is scheduled for 3:30pm.

Question

What is on the menu?

Answer

Hors d'oeuvres (heavy appetizers) will be the only food served at this event. Menu includes options that are friendly to the following: vegetarian, gluten free, dairy free. There is no one item that is both vegetarian and gluten-free. ALL items served are 100% free from seafood, shellfish, shrimp, etc. (Nothing from the ocean will be on the menu.) No formal dinner will be served. Question

Where is the wedding going to be?

Answer

In The Lowest Ferns 1105 Hickory St Kansas City, MO 64101 Located in the historic annex of the Crane building in the West Bottoms of Kansas City, MO. https://www.inthelowestferns.com/about

Question

Why is the ceremony so early in the afternoon?

Answer

We want our wedding to be a cocktail-hour-style soirée with friends and family. There is a small dancefloor but the majority of our time will be spent mingling and socializing with guests, contrary to traditional wedding receptions. We want this event to be true to who we are and what we value most, getting quality time with those who are dearest to us. This event will start early and end early.

Question

Who is in the official wedding party?

Answer

We opted to not have groomsmen or bridesmaids. We have our wonderful friend Chris operating as our officiant, and the bride's niece as a flower girl for the ceremony. There will be no processional, or recessional, (the traditional walk down the aisle and exit afterwards).
