We met at our high school homecoming dance on Saturday, September 14th, 2013. We both went to the dance with separate dates, but eventually ended up meeting and talking through our mutual friends. Eight days later, on September 22nd, 2013, we went on our very first date. We went and had a fancy dinner at McDonald's, and then saw Insidious 2 at the Greenwood Park Mall movie theater. The very next day, September 23rd, 2013, Bryan asked Britney to be his official girlfriend on the soccer field after one of her games. And of course, Britney said yes.
Throughout our relationship, we have come to realize that we are both superstitious. We realized that 23 is our lucky number, and 17 is our unlucky number. On June 11th, 2018, Bryan propsed to Britney in the same spot he asked her out in 2013: on the soccer field behind Franklin Central High School. Bryan got down on one knee and said, “Today on June 11th, 2018, we have been together for 1,723 days.” Bryan went on to explain that this day represented the combination of our unlucky and lucky numbers, which symbolized all the ups and downs we experienced as a couple. He explained that, just as our past had these ups and downs, our future would have similar lucky and unlucky breaks. However, come what may, we would always be able to count on each other to get through it. And with that, Bryan asked Britney to spend the rest of their lives together. And through all the tears, Britney said, “Yes!”
Since 2013, we have gone to two proms, cheered each other on at both high school graduations, and saw both college acceptance letters and decisions. The first car Britney ever drove was Bryan’s white Kia Rio, and The only reason Britney has seen all the Star Wars movies is because of Bryan. Together we have celebrated six Christmases, visited eight different states, and we have made it out of more than fifteen escape rooms. We have searched the Midwest for the best fried pickles (and we have decided nothing beats Buffalo Wild Wings). We have watched all 121 hours of the hit series “Lost” and we have spent way too much money on alcohol. We have spent almost six years laughing and crying and knowing that we are so lucky to have each other as our best friend, and future spouse. But we are even luckier to have the family and friends we do, and couldn’t imagine our big day without them there.
