On A Beach In Hawaii

April 20, 2013

Being the spontaneous people we are, we basically eloped and got married in Hawaii! Bryan had been stationed in Hawaii and I was to join him in the summer when school was out for both Michael and I. My favorite band, SOJA was playing in O'ahu and as a birthday gift he got us tickets. A week before I was to leave for the island, Bryan asked how I felt about getting married on the beach... Um, hello! Have we met??? April would totally love that! Obviously a week is no time to prepare a ceremony and invite guests to a destination wedding in Hawaii. I love being married to Bryan, but there is one thing I've always wanted from a wedding, out of all the customs. I wanted my daddy to walk me down the isle and give my hand to someone he believes is a good man. And now with most of our loved ones on the same continent, we are able to celebrate with our family and friends

Turns Out, The Third Time Is The Charm

December 2013

One of April's favorite, "our stories" I, (April) had been flipping through channels and stopped for one reason or another on The Mindy Project. I’ve never watched this show before and have not since. I was at a part where she was talking to a male friend after a somewhat ugly break-up with her boyfriend. The exchange between them was funny and I filed it away. Cut to a couple months later: Bryan had been making his way down from Washington to NM and told me he was going to see me in AZ! Of course I welcomed him to my home to hang out and rest. Being with him felt so comfortable, I felt very fortunate to have him as my friend. And as an added bonus, him and my son took to each other really quickly. After spending the day together, I found an opportunity to replay the "Mindy project" scene with Bryan. It went like this, "Hey Bryan, may I ask you a favor?" "of course" "If, by the time we're 40..." "Uh huh" "and if we haven't found the ONE..." "yeah..." "promise me..." "..." "promise you'll shoot me!" he wasn't expecting that response, we had a good laugh and went on with the evening. A couple days later, we were chatting again, him in NM, me in AZ. We were talking about the bit. B "Hey, Remember that thing you told me about, if at 40 we haven't found anyone?" A "haha yes" B "what if I didn't want to wait until we're 40?" A "...huh? What do you mean?" B "what if I didn't want to wait until we were 40?" A "what age were you thinking?" (he wants to shoot me already?!) B "how about when I'm 32? (he was 31)... I love you, I want to be with you." A "I love you. I want that too" B "so what are we doing?" If we were going to do this, we had to do it right. We had to do things differently. And we did. And here we are, 6 years later,
