How We Met

3/7/2017

In the fall of 2015, Bry applied for Cinemark as a fun part-time job while attending classes at Colorado State University. Lucky for her, there was a new Cinemark opening in Fort Collins and the GM "hired her off the streets". That fun part-time job quickly turned into a full-time career for her. In the summer of 2016, Rick also applied for Cinemark while attending classes at Colorado State University. He was an employee and she was a manager. Months passed without any moves made, because that's a big no-no in Cinemark-land, but soon an opportunity presented itself to Rick in the form of management in early 2017 and he did not hesitate to jump on that. It didn't take long before the two realized they had more in common than they thought. Through nights of closing the building together, they found out they both majored in Zoology, had the same taste in music, and were huge Marvel universe fans. She decided to make the first move and ask him to a movie, The Lego Batman Movie to be exact. Okay, maybe she didn't invite just him and it was an open invite, but it was intended for him to come. He said he would and she was so excited, but then he "had to work" and "couldn't come". The next day she told him that since he ditched her, he owed her a movie. He was a gentleman (and really smart) and offered to turn it into a full on date and movie. A few days later, they went to a lovely dinner at C.B. & Potts to get to know each other a bit more. Rick decided to tell every story regarding all the times he's been injured, and for those who really know him know that this ended up with him talking about this all through the dinner. For those who don't know him well, he got injured a lot, like a lot a lot because he is a dork. Anyways, after dinner they screened Logan together and ended up holding hands during the movie. Apparently Rick didn't really pay attention to the movie and was more focused on her hand. After the screening in an empty parking lot at around 3am, they had their first kiss... and the rest was history.

The Proposal

3/7/2020

I first knew I wanted to marry Bry about 18 months into our relationship while living together in FOCO. After realizing she was the ONE, I needed to get a ring. I wanted the ring to be something 100% unique, just like the amazing woman that would end up wearing it. I ended up finding a company that builds your ring from scratch. At first, they did not understand the vision I had for the ring, so I had to draw up a design myself. While the ring was being created, I had to figure out how to propose. She has a passion for movies & especially Marvel movies, which became the subject for the ring’s design. As for the proposal, I decided to focus specifically on the Infinity Stones & a scavenger hunt, which Bry enjoys a lot. I made prop Infinity Stones that even lit up. I marked the stones in a specific order with symbols from an ancient Celtic language which spelled out “Marry Me”. The ring was finally finished & was shipped to our home (thankfully she didn’t sign for the package). Once I had the ring & realized it was perfect, I planned out the scavenger hunt, the riddles, & the night of the proposal. I chose to propose on March 7th, our 3-year anniversary. The morning of, I hid the stones throughout the house each in an area that represented something important about our relationship. I gave her a different, difficult riddle to find each stone. Once she found them all, I had one last riddle for her to solve & that was translating the symbols, but I made her wait until after dinner. We ended up going on about our day & grabbed groceries for a very nice dinner that I cooked for her. I even grabbed a nice bottle of champagne to celebrate. The best part was that she still had no idea what this was for. After dinner, I gave her the key to solving the symbols while I secretly hid my phone to record what was about to happen. After a few moments, she finally put it all together & looked at me, I got down on my knee & asked her to marry me. Through happy tears, she said yes!

For all the days along the way
