While we attended the same high school, it wasnt until Cory “slid into Haley’s DM’s” on Twitter (privately messaged her) that we really started to get to know each other. Haley’s mom was actually the one who convinced her to go on her first “real” date - she told Haley, “I don’t want to hear you complain about being forever alone if you don’t go!” as Haley contemplated cancelling due to first-date nerves. We joke to this day that if it weren’t for Rachel, we wouldn’t be where we are today (thanks mom!). We met at the Sun Valley movie theatre for our very first date but decided that wasn’t enough - Haley was a Senior in high school and needed an excuse to stay out just a little bit later, so she told her parents that the first movie was sold out and that they had to catch the later one (sorry Mom and Dad!). We drove around in Cory’s Jeep listening to old country music classics (You Never Even Call Me by My Name was the first song Cory played, which was probably the last song in the world Haley expected him to play and to this day is one of our favorite sing-along songs) and bonding over our love of cars. Cory proposed to Haley on 07/21/2019 at the Rough Ridge Overlook in Boone, NC with the most beautiful, scenic backdrop. Just when Haley thought the day couldn’t get any better, Cory surprised her with an engagement party with all of the couple’s closest friends and family. Our original wedding date was 10/03/2020, and while COVID-19 may have thrown a wrench in our plans, we still decided to elope on our original date. We may not be able to celebrate with you all just yet, but we couldn't wait a moment longer to say "I do." Haley will still be walking down the aisle come 10/01/2021 (she refused to give up the chance to walk down the aisle in her dress!) and we will still be holding a small ceremony, but we will be legally bound as husband and wife as of 10/03/2020. We can't wait until we can finally safely celebrate with you all!
