Mayra's POV I first saw Matt on the first day of 9th Grade English. He was a green eyed, shaggy haired boy. Even though he caught my eye, that was all that happened. Fast forward to high school, junior year, that green eyed, shaggy haired boy was put in the friendzone, unknowingly. Little did I know that I had caught his eye too. To me, he was kind, and funny, but in no way could he ever like someone like me. Even after he let me drive his super cool car ;), I still had no idea that was his way of flirting with me. Fast forward to December 2016, thanks to Snapchat, my friendly nature and Matt's willingness to respond, we began to 'snap.' It wasn't until December 31, that Matt asked me to hang out with him. And OHMYGOSH, it was with all of his friends too! I was freakin' out but something in me didn't think to say no. LUCKILY. It was the best New Year's I've ever spent, and 2017 was the best year of my life. Matt and I have grown so much. He has shown me how to adventure, how to love, and how to have fun. I'm so excited and blessed to spend the rest of my life with him. Matt's POV While I remember seeing Mayra in 9th grade I don't remember her ever catching my eye (sorry babe). I remember junior year when I had gotten a new car. I refused to let anyone drive it, no matter who it was. Then one day Mayra asked me and I'm pretty sure I gave her the keys before she even finished the question. I guess I should have been more upfront that that was considered me flirting with her. We also danced together at junior prom but she doesn't remember that ;). Graduation came, life went on then one lazy night at home I get a Snapchat from Mayra. I'm like okay that's weird I haven't talked to her in years, should I even respond? Boy am I glad I did. Because what followed led into the best 12 months of my life. I never would have imagined I would end up with someone as amazing, smart, funny, and cute as Mayra.
Tuesday, January 9, 2018 It was no out of the ordinary Tuesday, I went to work, Matt went to work, we texted throughout the day on our breaks, when he asked me to go for a walk that evening. It had been a nice day, and I figured it would continue that way into the evening. Also, we hadn't done any form of exercise, in months, so I'd figured it'd be a good idea. Evening came around, and I went to pick him up, to go walk on the trail. We stretched, and started to jog, then walked, then jogged, then ended mile 2 with a walk. As we were nearing the end of the trail, Matt suggested that we stretch, and I thought that was a great idea. As we were walking back to the car, I was almost to the driver's side door, when I hear "babe, there's something in your tire." So I go around to check it out, and don't have a chance to get down to look when, Matt's on his knee and opens a box with a ring in it. At that moment, time froze and all I heard was "Mayranegretewillyoumarryme?" I'm hard of hearing as it is, so my brain had to process it all, so just like time I froze, and finally remembered how to speak and was able to answer "yes!" It was the best walk, Matt and I had ever taken. Never in a million years would I have expected this to be our proposal, but I wouldn't want it any other way. Matt has made me the happiest, and knows that I'm terrible at surprises, but does such a great job at surprising me.
