We were both waiting to be picked up after school. Katie had her back turned and Greg yelled “Hey Bethany!”, referencing her Bethany Beach shorts. She turned around and promptly said “That’s not my name.” He retorted, “then why does it say Bethany on your butt?” They became close friends and confidants from there on out. It wasn’t until 2014, when they started going on weekly runs together that they realized maybe there was something more than friendship between them.

Just before they were about to head back to the east coast for Christmas, Greg insisted on watching one last west coast sunset at their favorite beach in San Diego. He got down on one knee as the sky turned orange and pink. Katie said “YES YES YES” before he actually asked the question. She had known it was coming the whole time.
