To set the stage, Tanner and Allison were long-distance after Tanner graduated and moved to Huntsville, Alabama and Allison still had another year left in graduate school in Greensboro, North Carolina. During weekly Bachelor Night, Allison was invited by two of their friends, Anna and David, to get dressed up and go to dinner. Over the next few days, there were many conversations about wishing Tanner could come hang out and what the plans for dinner were going to be. That Friday night, Allison got dressed up and headed over to Anna and David's house, assuming they'd still be getting ready when she arrived. She walked into the house to lights on the archway between the living room and kitchen, and the kitchen island had been decorated with flowers and candles. Allison took a picture of the set up and sent it to Tanner with the comment "am I the third wheel, or am I the third wheel?". In Allison's mind, this was something David had set up for Anna as a late Valentine's Day celebration. It struck Allison as odd that they'd invite her along, but she just shrugged it off. After walking through the kitchen TWICE, moving her car, then walking through the kitchen another TWO TIMES, Anna finally texted Allison and told her what was on the island was from Tanner. Since Allison seemed oblivious, Tanner and Anna had been texting back and forth trying to figure out why she wasn't catching on. Eventually, they decided Anna should just tell her. After reading a beautiful, heartfelt letter Tanner had written and left on the kitchen island, Allison darted to the backdoor thinking Tanner would be waiting outside. Allison poked her head out, realized Tanner wasn't out there, said she was going to "throw up", then went back inside. Tanner was standing in the doorway to the kitchen with a ring box in his hand.
