Seniors in college, it was a Wednesday night after 10pm. Thomas was one beer in and toasted. Madeline was probably on her fifth and just fine. They talked about their dreams of writing for the screen and on paper. Some of you may know the place Humphrey's, a famous bar by St. Louis University, had nights where pitchers of beer were $1 each. The beer was bad, the company just tolerable.
Thomas said "I love you" after they watched one of his favorite movies, Brother Bear. Before this declaration of love, Tom fell asleep as they watched & Madeline was quite peeved as it was her first time screening said movie which gets QUITE SAD. She cried that night. Later, when Thomas told her he loved her, either because he meant it or felt bad, tears continued.
Maddie & Tom moved to University City before she started graduate school and he a new job. Some of their favorite hobbies at home include swimming, snuggling with cat Chloe, and planning to cook in their nice kitchen only to inevitably order Dewey's pizza (super dangerous to live by good food). They've signed another lease together so it's safe to say these kids will be alright.
Thomas spent months making plans to get the ring right and schedule the perfect place to get down on a knee, including surprising Madeline with a weekend away in Galena, IL, a little outside of where they both grew up as children. Unfortunately Madeline's bosses planned a Nascar race visit that weekend right beforehand. She got out of it but the surprise was no more. Nevertheless it was the best weekend of her life.
Maddie's currently at a local media company, writes about tv on a film site, and works on various film projects around STL. She finished her M.A. in May 2019. Her dream is to work in & produce television one day. Tom is hard at work developing websites down the street for a corporation in Clayton, MO. In his freetime he writes & illustrates with his friends & programming team. His dream is to retire by 40 & write novels from home or ideally, at a Barnes and Noble.
