In late 2017, SurveyMonkey moved Nicole down to Headquarters in San Mateo and a few months after settling into the new office, Alex was moved to the empty desk directly across from Nicole. They were both in other relationships so they built a solid friendship and enjoyed collaborating on projects together at work. Fast forward to early 2019 and Nicole had moved back to Portland with SurveyMonkey and she and Alex both found themselves single. Continuing to work closely together on projects, a real spark had developed and after sincere attempts on both their parts to deny it, they agreed to give the long distance thing a try. Turns out, it was the best excuse to travel together and they took trips to Peru, Colombia, Mexico, Hawaii, & New Zealand together. In March of 2020, Alex came up to Portland for a routine weekend trip and the world went into lockdown. Six months later, after living and working in a 600 sq ft apartment, spending every minute together and still crazy about eachother, Alex became an Oregon resident. Shortly after that, they bought a beautiful home together and Alex popped the question at Cannon Beach, Oregon on October, 7th 2020; Nicole didn't hesitate for a moment.
