Question

What flights are we taking?

Answer

As you probably know, airfare will likely continue to go higher as we get closer to February. Be sure to book as soon as possible. We have found decent deals through credit cards with travel rewards... Especially if they offer signup bonuses. The destination airport is in the town of Liberia (airport code LIR). United and Southwest are the more popular airlines from Denver, although American and Delta also fly there. We will be on the flights below if you would like to join us: Depart - Feb 17, United # 1917 (DEN--LIR) Return - Feb 22, Southwest # 4992 (LIR--DEN) Upon arrival, it may feel a bit chaotic as the are several flights that arrive around the same time. Once you are through customs, follow the instructions you received to locate the resort shuttles or rental-car shuttles.

Question

Car rental Vs. Shuttle reservation?

Answer

SHUTTLE: The Diria Resort is about a 1-hour drive from the airport. The resort offers a private round-trip shuttle from the airport for around $200 total for up to 4 people. You will be able to reserve this service at the time you book your room...Simply click on "Add Enhancement" at the time you book. If you have already reserved your room, you may add the shuttle by modifying your reservation on the website. For any other questions or to reserve, you may email tours@tamarindodiria.com. This same group can also arrange a variety of tours/excursions during your stay. If necessary, you can also find taxis at the airport, but they are pricey. CAR RENTAL: The town of Tamarindo has so much to offer within, but renting a car can allow more flexibility during your visit. Car rentals are available both at the airport and in Tamarindo (be sure to reserve ahead of time). There are various companies including Alamo, Enterprise, Budget, & Avis. They each offer a complimentary shuttle pick-up at the airport curbside, with Avis being the closest one. An important note -- The rental companies REQUIRE mandatory collision insurance on top of your daily rate. If you use a credit card that offers rental collision coverage, you MUST provide a letter from your bank which specifically states collision coverage is provided. This letter must include the last 4 digits of your card number and your full name. When provided, it should waive the required collision coverage that they tack on. Don't forget to set up international cell service with your phone provider, and/or download an offline map of Costa Rica. You WILL need GPS if you rent a car.

Question

What are driving conditions like?

Answer

The main roads are paved, but they are all two-lanes. There are no major highways. During our last visit, we rented an SUV through Avis. It was more budget friendly for us, and it was nice to drive ourselves to excursions instead of paying for shuttles each day. We found the driving to be really easy-going, but watch the road signs closely, and look out for motorcycles and speed bumps.

Question

What excursions/tours should I do?

Answer

There are so many things to do in Costa Rica. Our hope is for everyone to enjoy their vacation however they wish, but if you are interested in any additional group excursions with us, please connect with us and we can coordinate. We would love to do some zip-lining! The shuttle/tours group within the resort can help with numerous activities for you to enjoy. If interested, please email tours@tamarindodiria.com for additional information. We also recommend doing some research about the area and finding certain experiences that you are most interested in.
