Things to Know

The Wedding Website of Jackson Brooks Turner and Andenescia Tiffany Walters
We can't wait for you to visit the beautiful island St Croix and celebrate this wonderful time in our lives ! Please see some fun facts below.
Question

Do I need a Passport?

Answer

No Passport needed! St Croix is an American territory.

Question

Are US dollars accepted here?

Answer

Yes, US dollars are the main currency.

Question

What languages are spoken?

Answer

English is the main language in the USVI and the majority of the island speak, read and write English only. Some residents speak quickly and with an accent making it difficult to understand.

Question

Do you drive on the same side of the road?

Answer

In St Croix we drive on the opposite side of the road. A valid U.S or foreign license is accepted. Seatbelts are required by law, and it is illegal to drive while speaking on your cell phone (contact your cell phone provider to determine the best option for service while on the island).

Question

Do we need power adapters?

Answer

Standard 120-volt current is used in the U.S. Virgin Islands. No adapters are required.

Question

Can I bring back liquor to the mainland US?

Answer

YES! U.S. residents 21 years of age and older can return to the mainland with four litres of liquor, duty free. Add a 5th litre duty free if it is a product made in the U.S. Virgin Islands (Captain Morgan and Cruzan Rum)! Compare this to the one-litre-per-person duty free limit outside the U.S. territory. Please note: Some airlines will allow you to check-on a box of liquor without an additional baggage fee. Please check directly with your airline for up to date information.

Question

Are there any customs/norms?

Answer

Good morning/afternoon/night are golden tickets to Virgin Islands hospitality. (Hi or Hello are not as warm as the former) Coverups are highly recommended when walking around town. Even though there is no open carry law it is frowned upon to drink to excess while in public areas. Islanders are very hospitable and charitable and will give you the shirt off their back, but as in any travel please do due diligence and be safe.

Question

Any major differences to make note of?

Answer

Most places are not air conditioned as they are historic buildings. Most Cruzians still rely on plantation style shutters to capture the wonderful trade winds. We would recommend a portable fan if you tend to run on the warm side.

Question

Any island specific souvenirs you would recommend?

Answer

Yes! A hook bracelet! The Hook has been worn by islanders and island visitors for centuries and holds the meaning of love and unity. The horseshoe design is worn different ways to signify your heart. If the hook is facing away from your heart then your heart is free and open to love. If the hook is facing in toward your heart then your love is taken. The hook is worn around the world and unites those who wear it! Sonya Ltd. is the creator of the original hook bracelet here on St. Croix - often imitated, never duplicated.
