How We Met

First comes work...

Alesa and Derek met at work. Alesa replaced the person who hired Derek, but as fate would have it Derek sat directly in front of Alesa. After sitting near each other for a few weeks, Alesa mentioned to her friends that she had a work crush, this was Derek. One day Alesa invited Derek to drinks at the Tippler with a few other coworkers. A couple of weeks later they would attend another after work gathering where at the end of the night they sat on the oculus steps in the World Trade Center steps where Derek promised Alesa he would father all of her children. While entering the cab, Alesa told Derek “I love you” and instantly felt embarrassed as they had only begun to get to know each other that evening. Two days later, they met up at a World Science Festival family event where Alesa attended the event with her 6 year old son Aiden. Derek enjoyed spending time with Aiden and you could tell Aiden enjoyed his company. At the end of the event, Aiden grabbed both of their hands and began to swing between them. Derek, Alesa, and Aiden went to get pizza after the event and the threesome were inseparable from that day forward.

The Proposal

"Super Secret Sunday" Email

Sunday: On Sunday, I'll turn my location tracking on so Jen and Kathy are able to track my location. I will also send text message when I get to each location. 10:30AM: Derek and Alesa leave for church 11:00AM: Derek, Alesa, and Aiden at church at the Brooklyn Tabernacle 12:30PM: Alesa and Derek leave for the Park. I will send a text message when we get to the F train. It’s an estimate 14 minute travel 12:30PM: Leon arrives at Park (or as early as you need for to be ready) 12:40PM-12:45PM: Jenn, Kathy, and Giftay meet near the park. You’ll hide on 1st street side of park, next to the gates, which is feet from where I will be proposing. If it's raining, there is store called “Otherwild” that's right next door. 12:50AM-1:00PM: Arrive to the Proposal Site. When Alesa and I get off the F train I will send a text message to let everyone prepare. The F train is like 1-2 min walk to the Proposal Site. We’ll be walking on the Houston side... Leon will be waiting at the Proposal Site as if he’s there to take personal photos. When we get to “Heart Graffiti” I’ll ask Leon if he’s able to take our photo, as if I didn’t know him. (I’ll give you my phone, and can maybe say, hey do I mind if I take a photo with my camera first? This detail can be adjusted) Leon will take one photo, then say “Let me get another one”. That will be the cue for me to start my proposal. When I say my first line of the proposal; Jen, Kat, Giftay, and Aiden should appear through the gate from 1st street to watch the proposal. 1:00PM-1:50PM: Photos for the proposal including individual and group. 1:55PM-UNKNOWN: Lunch at the Blank Ant to Celebrate as a group. Proposal Site: First Street Green Cultural Park, 33 E 1st St. ATTACHMENTS I've made some maps showing where everyone will be located... Thanks again for everyone's help! Alesa is a such an amazing person, that I'm going to be happy to make this a special moment for her. Talk soon!

The Wedding Day!

Then comes marriage.

On March 11, 2021 Derek and Alesa decided they would finally tie the knot, after being delayed by the pandemic. They both agreed 3/22 would be the perfect day because their favorite number was "22" (Derek born 6/22 and Alesa born 10/22). Alesa filed for their marriage certificate the next day. She was nervous because there were no available appointments on the NYC.gov/cupid site and worried that they wouldn't get the date they were planning for. As a woman of faith, she decided to purchase her dress and order Derek’s and boys clothing in the event that they were able to pull off this wedding in a weeks time. On March 16th she found an article that suggested you tweet/email the clerk office for an expedited appointment. She did both, and in less than 24 hours the office replied and they had their virtual appointment on March 18th. On Sunday morning (March 21st) they sent a text to their family and friends to attend their virtual wedding or meet them outdoors at Jane's Carousel in Brooklyn Bridge Park. People were surprised and happy at the same time! Their friends and family just wanted to know how they could be of service. On the day of the wedding the family dressed at the 1 Hotel. Their friend Omar took pictures and managed the zoom. Their friend Judge Marsha D. Michael was the officiant, Derek's parents sent well wishes from Minnesota, and Alesa's parents did the same on location. At around 6:45pm the couple made their vows to each other in front of about 25 people in person and about 50 people who attended the wedding zoom. We have been inseparable since the day we met and we're so happy that it's official in God's eyes and our own. We love our community and we can't do this marriage and family life without you. Love The Brooklyn Breuer's.
