Back in January of 2016, in the spring of our sophomore year, Brooke and I were set up to go to one of her date socials together. We had some mutual friends who thought it would be fun for us to go together, but we had only really talked once before. Neither of us had any expectations, but we ended up having a great time and really hit it off from the start. From there, I asked her to go on a date with me to an Auburn baseball game, and this is when I first knew that I needed to keep finding excuses to spend time with Brooke. For the rest of the semester, we went on a few other dates and would try to meet up outside the Haley Center when our respective Spanish classes ended. Leading into that summer, it was a relief to know that she was going to be interning at First Baptist Church of Montgomery because I was going to be in Auburn that summer. By July, I “finally” asked her to be my girlfriend, and the rest is history. By November 2016, I truly believed she was the woman I was going to marry. When I knew I was going to propose, her grandparents’ lake house stood out to me as the perfect spot because it is such a significant place to her and the rest of her family. Thanks to some Oscar-worthy acting from her family, the proposal went perfectly, and each day further confirms that asking her to marry me is and will continue to be one of the best decisions I ever make. She has been my best friend, and I can’t imagine life without her. I love and respect her so much, and I can’t wait for the journey and memories to come in marriage to Brooke.
Our sophomore year of college, I spotted Pete at the library studying for his first semester exams. We had met before but had never really spent much time together. As the new semester rolled around, a date party called “pick a mister for your sister” was planned and a good friend knew to set us up. The social was fun, but I didn’t know if we would continue spending time together. A week or so later, Pete called me on a Saturday morning and asked me to go on a date with him the following Friday. In a day and age where calling for a date is so rare, I knew he was special, and I was so excited about our date. We had such a fun time and continued going on dates throughout the semester. Pete pursued me in a steady and Godly manner—always respecting me and treating me well. I was so happy when we officially starting dating that summer. Fast forward two years and he is at the center of my favorite moments. Whether it be going skydiving together or playing board games, we are always seeking out new adventures. I am beyond thankful that God placed Pete Berryman in my life. It is my hope that we will glorify Him through our marriage and seek Him first always. Being Pete's fiance has brought me so much joy and I am counting down the days until we are husband and wife!
