I had recently accepted a new job at John Handley High School, working with a student with autism. One of the student's classes happened to be located across from Matt's Algebra II classroom. I walked passed him every day exchanging pleasantries while developing the biggest crush on him. One morning, I accidentally locked my keys in my car and went to get help from the carpentry teacher, who conveniently for me, was directly across from Matt's classroom as well. Matt overheard the conversation, rushed to get a hanger, and followed me out to help. Two days later, I received a hanger "anonymously", with a note stating to "break in case of emergency". For the remainder of the week, we pranked each other back and forth, leading to a CO2 car race in my students' carpentry class. Matt made a car in his own time to race mine, making a bet on who would pay for our "first date". Matt won and proposed to me less than a year later, on Mount Washington in Pittsburgh, with a scrapbook of our time together that featured a miniature hanger to retrieve my ring out of the "car window" he made in the back of the book. -Brooke
