We met at the end of our freshman year at Texas A&M. We both had mutual friends who needed players for a philanthropy volleyball tournament. We played together and ended up getting 2nd place. From there snapchats were exchanged and Joey asked Brooke out on a date at the beginning of their sophomore year.

Joey proposed to Brooke during their trip to Italy on May 21, 2024. After spending the day in Florence, Italy, in the rain, the tour group had plans to go to San Gimignano, a small medieval village, and a winery that evening. Brooke and Joey were getting ready when all of a sudden Brooke's dress strap broke, allowing Joey the chance move the ring from one pair of pants to the other while she was distracted. Joey's original outfit changed because Brooke and Joey purchased Florentine leather jackets that they could not refuse. Joey and Brooke planned to wear their new purchase to the winery, which meant Joey's originally planned outfit needed to change to match the jacket. Brooke's dress was fixed by a black bobby pin, the tenacity from their new friends Makayla & Marissa, and a lot of faith. The tour group pulled up and began walking the village. Brooke and Joey took a photo together with the lovely Tuscan background. Joey was holding the ring in his pocket, and Brooke was unsuspecting. The tour continued through the village and another photo op was had. The tour guide instructed the couple where to stand. Brooke was instructed by Joey to give her stuff to another tour member, of course Brooke did not listen. She threw her stuff behind a large pot so they could get their photo and continue exploring. After an awkward pause and a smirking grin from Joey he dropped down on one knee. The tour guide (Jos) was able to video the proposal, and others took photos. Joey had coordinated the whole thing. Brooke was too stunned to speak and immediately jumped to hug Joey. The tour guide handed Joey and Brooke a bottle of champagne. The couple popped the bottle and then ran around the village together with champagne, gelato, and the biggest smiles excited for their future together.
