How We Met

As we were approaching a new chapter of life, neither of us knew exactly what God had planned for our future. We both made a last minute decision to attend college at Union University, unsure of what to expect. As we took this leap of faith, God’s plan for us to be at Union was a blessing in disguise. Jake came to Union to play baseball, and Brooke came for softball, each focused on separate journeys. The same campus that felt like a leap of faith became the place where our story began. In March of our freshman year, we met for the first time. Talking to each other felt effortless. That first night, we drove around our college town talking for hours. Jake knew the way to Brooke’s heart by buying her a pint of Ben and Jerry’s brownie batter ice cream. We were so deep in conversation that Brooke let the ice cream melt and spill all in the floorboard of Jake’s car. Even though Brooke didn’t make the best first impression after that, Jake still wanted to see Brooke again. Night after night, long car rides around our college town became our thing, up until summer break. Even while distance separated us, our conversations never stopped. Our nightly car rides turned into nightly FaceTime calls. Though we were not physically with each other, we began grower closer and closer to each other. When we returned to Union University in August, it was clear that we shared something special. In September of our sophomore year, we officially began dating. From that moment on, we have walked through so many seasons together, each one drawing us closer not only to one another, but also in our faith. Through every joy and every challenge within our relationship, we have seen God’s faithfulness throughout it. As we encounter this next chapter of life, we are filled with gratitude for where we have been and excitement for where God is leading us.
