Finding love in a pandemic is tough, but a little help from the internet made it possible. Brooke made the first move on Hinge, a dating app, by complimenting a photo of David’s pants (which were bought in Malawi, Africa.) The first date on August 8th included takeout falafel and a walk around downtown Knoxville for several hours. The second date consisted of an impromptu walk at Brooke’s favorite spot in town—Suttree Landing Park. The third date sealed the deal for Brooke with a home-cooked dinner and movie (and David wore THE pants). That third date was August 15th; who would have known that one year (minus a day) later, we’d be getting married?! We bonded over “dad jokes,” board games, costume parties, and our walk with Jesus. In October, when Brooke met the family for the first time, it wasn’t just his parents, but 6 of 7 siblings, 11 nieces and nephews, and over a hundred of their closest friends at the annual Fall Festival at the Shepherd family farm. We said “I love you’s” in December and the rest is history! It’s been a season of change as David completed his didactic season of Physician Assistant school and is now moving every six weeks for eight clinical rotations while Brooke changed jobs after a long stint at Girl Scouts. David proposed on March 11th at “our bench” at Lakeshore Park. The ring came a week early, motivating David to plan a proposal in less than 24 hours and needless to say, Brooke was VERY surprised (she was going to get her nails done the very next day). We will be having a bit of an unconventional newlywed beginning—living in Airbnb’s at David’s clinical rotation sites in Johnson City, Knoxville, and Middlesboro, Kentucky until December when David graduates from PA school! We will then be moving in January to wherever David gets a job acceptance. Thank you to our friends and family who have supported us so well. Let’s celebrate on the dance floor! Brooke & David
