Our story actually began before we were even born. In 1995, my mom, Betty Jo, and Skyler’s grandma, Carol, started working together. They remained friends for years, completely unaware they were setting the stage for our future. In March 2021, Carol reached out to my mom to ask if I might be interested in going on a date with her grandson, Skyler. I was nervous because it would be a blind date for me. He, of course, already knew what I looked like. After a few days of thinking it over, I decided to go for it and asked my mom to have Skyler text me. A few days later, I received a call from an unknown number, which I missed. When I called back, Skyler answered, and he swears I said hello rudely (oops)! Regardless, he asked me out for the following weekend, and I said yes. We texted a little before the date, although Skyler is a terrible texter. The original plan was to go to Outback for dinner, but the wait was too long. Instead, we walked a few doors down and ended up at Firehouse Subs. Neither of us loved it. I asked for a little lettuce on my sub, and they gave basically gave me a salad on bread. Despite the questionable meal, the date was perfect in its own funny and memorable way. Since that first date on March 19, 2021, life has only gotten better. We have shared countless laughs and adventures, growing closer every day. That first slightly awkward meeting turned into a relationship full of love, joy, and more laughter than we ever expected.
