Two years ago I met the man of my dreams. We met on line and talked through texting for about a week. The more I talked to Justin, the more excited I was to meet him. We made plans to meet up one day as he was passing through Cache Valley where I lived and he in Salt Lake. We went to Chili's and ended up sitting there talking for a couple hours getting to know each other. When the date was over and he left, I couldn't wait to see him again. I couldn't believe how much we had in common and how easy he was to talk to. Two years later the story is still going. I love Justin and can't wait to spend the rest of my life with him.
The proposal went through different forms in my head, ranging from traditional to embarrassing. I chose to pop the question during our Photo-Op with Jason Mamoa (Khal Drogo/Aquaman) at Salt Lake Comic Con because it would be unexpected, memorable, and we'd have a photo of the event without arousing suspicion from Brook with a camera following her. The planning was arduous because I couldn't get a solid yes or no from anyone if it would even be allowed. After rescheduling the Photo-Op and waiting in line for hours, I finally learned from an event supervisor that I would have to ask Jason himself, if it would be ok. As we move up the line, we see him taking the pictures and there was no time to pause and ask him a question, it was just picture-move, picture-move. I didn’t have a lot of time to think and then it was our turn, with me fumbling with the ring in one hand. We went up and I shook his hand asking, “I was hoping to do a reaction picture with you?” He smiled and said sure, then went to put his arm around Brook and I – waiting to see what he'd be reacting to.... but I wasn’t there. I had dropped to my knee which Brook didn’t even notice until I addressed her, “Brook, will you marry me?” Her eyes bulged, Her jaw hit the floor, and though he too was dumbstruck, if Jason hadn’t held her up, Brook would have collapsed. At this point, all I can see is her and the flashes from the camera. I heard Jason shout ‘keep taking them!’ and she regains her composure and repeats ‘yes, yes, yes’ over and over again. I got up and placed the ring on her finger, we hugged and kissed, and Jason was celebrating right behind us. As we moved to leave the photo-op booth, an older woman came up and hugged us and congratulated us with tears, introducing herself as Jason Mamoa’s mother! When we left home that day, Brook left only with a great friend but returned with a fiancé, a ring, and six photos of our proposal, five paid for by Mamoa, nearly $400 worth of additional pictures.
