PLEASE READ Bisbee, Arizona is a small, eclectic mining town of decades past, nestled in the Mule Mountains of Southeastern Arizona. Standing at an elevation of 5,538 ft Bisbee, Arizona was founded in 1880. During the early 20th-Century, Bisbee was one of the largest cities between St. Louis and San Francisco. booming with a population of 20,000. It was a major center for Copper, Gold, and Silver. These days, Bisbee has graciously adopted the moniker of "Mayberry on Acid" and has rejuvenated itself as a tourist destination, known for its well-preserved victorian architecture and deep history known as The "Old Bisbee". This area is a National Historic District featuring steep and narrow streets, original buildings, and numerous staircases, which are used in the annual "Bisbee 1000" stair climb race. In town, you will find local breweries, restaurants and coffee shops, boutiques, vibrant colored houses and great photo opportunities. Travel back in time, and maybe take a pit stop to visit Tombstone or Lowell, AZ on your way in or out of town! The town was named after Judge DeWitt Bisbee, a financial backer of the Copper Queen Mine which was discovered in 1877. When the Copper Queen Mine was acquired by the Phelps Dodge Corporation from 1885 - 1975 it became one of the most productive mines in the world, producing over 8 Billion pounds of Copper along with other natural resources. Though this town has some darker parts of history; and in modern eyes is defined by a legacy of corporate overreach, extreme labor exploitation, and systematic racial segregation it is now celebrated for for its quirkiness, local artists, and inclusivity. Life in Bisbee is often described as "slow-paced" and of course "eclectic" with a strong sense of community. The town features a Historical Mining Museum, artisan shops, restaurants, antique stores, cafés, and art on every corner. We hope you enjoy this town as much as we love it.
