It was 2009, in middle school, when I met the love of my life and never even knew it. During break, I was walking around looking for someone to hang out with when, out of the corner of my eye, I saw Linsey sitting against the gym gate. As I walked over to introduce myself, only one question crossed my mind. Being the blunt person I am, I just asked. I remember Linsey looking up at me as I said, “Hi, my name is Brittney… are you a boy or a girl?” Without missing a beat, Linsey grabbed her chest and sarcastically replied, “Do these look like boys to you?” I burst out laughing and immediately asked if she wanted to be friends. Luckily, she said yes. We have stayed in connect ever since. Over time, life took us in different directions during high school. She moved to Reseda while I stayed in Lancaster, and eventually we lost touch. Then one day, I received a message from her that simply said, “I miss your face!” That one text message turned into 12 years of unforgettable memories, laughter, and a friendship I will always cherish.
