Travel Note
The Galveston-Port Bolivar Ferry is a free, 24/7 transportation service operated by the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) that connects Galveston Island with the Bolivar Peninsula. The crossing is about 2.7 miles long, takes approximately 18 minutes, and is a popular free activity for locals and tourists, offering views of the bay and a chance to see dolphins. You can ride as a driver or a pedestrian, with vehicles boarding after being queued into lanes on the Galveston side. Guests flying into Houston will most likely need to rent a car and take the ferry to Bolivar Peninsula.
