In the middle of the Susquehanna River, only a short bridge span away from Harrisburg, sits a 63 acre island and city park. We love walking around City Island for the views of the capital and to check out Harrisburg's minor league baseball team - the Senators!

The State Museum of PA

Pennsylvania State Capitol Complex

The Pennsylvania State Capitol is the seat of government for the U.S. state of Pennsylvania located in downtown Harrisburg. The building was designed by architect Joseph Miller Huston in 1902 and completed in 1906 in a Beaux-Arts style with decorative Renaissance themes throughout.

Fort Hunter Mansion and Park

Built as a fort by the British during the French and Indian War, this location has also served as a farm that eventually grow into a frontier village. The farm and mansion went through several owners before the Fort Hunter Foundation was established in 1956. Presently owned by the County of Dauphin and Board of Trustees for Fort Hunter, the park provides recreational facilities embracing the Mansion, several other historic buildings -- including a barn, tavern house, covered bridge, and service states -- and 40 acres of open park land-- all with a magnificent view of the Susquehanna River. Rachael & Scott suggest to check out the Canal walking trail!

The Midtown Scholar Bookstore is the nation's largest academic used bookseller. It is located in a dramatically renovated 1920s theater building - 5 blocks north of Pennsylvania's State Capitol. Its Famous Reading Café offers exceptional organic, fair-trade teas, coffees, and espressos imported by Counter Culture Coffee. Its Yellow Wall Gallery features works by local artists.

For those wanting an adventure outside of Harrisburg, Boiling Springs Children's Lake is a charming and scenic seven-acre, man-made lake with perfectly clear water that literally bubbles in the middle of Boiling Springs. Take a stroll down Lover's Walk, admire the lovely historic buildings and gardens, and feed the ducks and swans. We suggest to hike along the Appalachian Trail, which runs along the side of the lake. Grab lunch at Cafe 101 before or after!
