Sam and I met on a dating app called The League when I was living in Palo Alto, CA during my MBA summer internship at Intel. When I first saw his profile, I thought he was very attractive and a bit quirky. His tag line read "I'm like Socrates, but my skin is more chocolatey". I had no idea that he was quoting a Kanye line. To be honest, I thought that it was kind of weird but I went along with it. Sam and I instantly connected over chat message and decided to meet in person. Our first date was at a cocktail bar called Novela. I went to the hostess and asked for a reservation under "Sam Taylor". To my surprise, he didn't make a reservation. To this day, I joke that this was his first strike! Our conversation was so incredibly deep and before we knew it, hours had gone by and we had talked about everything from our career goals, what we wanted our life impact to be and how many children we each wanted. It felt so incredibly natural. I left the date eagerly awaiting date #2. On the following Wednesday, I received a phone call from an unsaved number. The man on the other line asked if I was available for dinner on Saturday. At the time, I had no idea that the person I was talking to on the phone was Sam. I mean, I was living my best life and dating in the Bay Area! Lucky for me, Sam was standing outside the restaurant and I was so thrilled to be on date #2 with him. A few weeks later, I moved back to Boston to finish up my final year at Harvard Business School. I had hoped that we'd continue talking, but recognized that we lived +5000 miles away from each other. Two weeks into my semester, Sam invited me back to California to celebrate his birthday with him. After several cross-country trips, we made things official and life hasn't been the same since. Sam is my best friend, my love, my sense of reason, my biggest supporter, my everything. Every day I feel so incredibly blessed to walk this life along his side. I cannot wait to make things official and say "I do"!
Summer 2017 was an extremely busy time for me. I was working a new job, looking to close on my 1st home, and dating with intention. Unbeknownst to me, dating with intention would be much harder than I thought. So, I was on every dating app: Tinder, Bumble, Linkedin, and The League. This is in addition to offline dating. Thankfully, the league allows you to filter for different things like religion, ethnicity, etc. I met Brittany on The League and once I got her phone number, arranged to meet her at a bar called Novela. I didn’t know I needed a reservation to make an impression with her, and thankfully, this was ok. While on our date, Brittany blew me away. Not only with how gorgeous she is, nor her professional accolades, but truly her spirit. Confident, articulate, witty, a smile that can light up a gloomy basement, it was a good Saturday night for a first date! I didn’t have any expectations when I left Novela. My hope was that I could see her again because we had a great time talking for 4 to maybe even 5 hours. With that in mind, I called her Wednesday to arrange an early dinner, and putt putt at an indoor golf facility around the corner from the restaurant. Again we had a great time at dinner! We went to the golf facility, and with the line being too long, decided that we could go to another bar, and then a club the rest of the night. That’s about 4 dates, and at least 10 hours worth of dating in 2 weekends! We kept seeing each other up until she went back to HBS for her 2nd year of school. Around my birthday I asked if she would fly back out to the Bay. She said yes, and I also suggested that she tell everyone she had a boyfriend because I wasn’t flying cross country without being exclusive. She happily obliged. Brittany is the best person I have ever met in my life. I am so thankful that our paths crossed while in CA. I love her more than these 2000 characters allow me to articulate. Truly blessed to have fallen in love with such a wonderful person.
Sam and Brittany traveled to Cancun, Mexico for a Spring vacation on March 10th 2019. The two were so excited to get away from their busy lives in California and they couldn't wait for some relaxation and sun. Little did Brittany know that Sam had planned to propose to Brittany and he was anxiously carrying a beautiful ring. On the second day of their vacation, Sam asked if Brittany wanted to wake up and watch the sunrise on the beach. Brittany wasn't a morning person, but she knew that Sam was and she happily obliged. As they sat on the beach, just the two of them, Sam began to speak the most beautiful words. He then got down on one knee and proposed as the sun was rising over the beautiful ocean. After tears, hugs and kisses, Brittany said yes! Cancun, Mexico will forever be their special place.
