We met in our first year of Ph.D. at Texas A&M University in one of many graduate classes. We became friends by practicing English at Revolution Cafe and Bar in Bryan, TX. Soon after, Ellie and Yalong would meet and their connections was almost as instant as ours.
We visited the small town of Gregory, TX to spend time with Mr. and Mrs. Hector Garcia. Here, Yalong tasted the delicious nectar known as Menudo. Now we visit often and bring coolers full of menudo. We have also visited Songzi, Hubei, China to spend time with Mrs. Chen Jing. There was so much delicious food Brittany could not stop eating, especially the doupiza.
During this time we began our long distance relationship. Brittany moved to Gainesville, FL to attend the University of Florida while Yalong remained in College Station, TX at Texas A&M University. We visited each other frequently from cars to planes to rental cars. One of our favorite stories is after one of Yalong's trips where he traded the wrong keys at the rental car facility and had to pay for them to deliver his personal car keys back to Texas. However, our fondest memory is of the tiny, zippy, purring black Mazda 3 which unfortunately is no longer running due to Brittany's accident...but returned in the form of a new laptop. Thankfully after one school year we were able to reunite and begin living together in College Station.
In the beginning there is darkness..and then BANG the universe began and Yalong decided to buy a ring. We would like to thank Mr. and Mrs. Rodney and Sarah Bokman and Nipun Deb Nath for going with Yalong to purchase the ring. Yalong had decided to uphold one of the Aggie traditions and propose under the Century Tree on Campus. Tradition says that if a marriage proposal takes place under the tree, the marriage will last forever. We made our way to the Century Tree, sat down, Yalong took the ring box out of his pocket and Brittany asked "Are you sure?" to which Yalong replied "Yes".
