Me and Brittany both attended Bishop McNamara High School. During this time, we surprisingly didn't have the pleasure of knowing each other since we never formally met. I still remember our first encounter in the Fine Arts building. We were both between periods, heading to our classes. I can still visualize how amazed I was. It was almost like a slow motion effect with the sun directly over her. The funny part about the whole situation is that I never saw her again. On February 4, 2011 I reached out to Brittany Alexis McCoy, and it was history in the making. After our graduations, coincidentally we both were taking classes at PGCC. Over time we developed a strong friendship and quickly built a closer relationship.
February 4th, 2011, is the day it all started. I was a sophomore in college taking classes at PGCC. A typical day was go to class, come home to check Blackboard for assignments, and of course check social media accounts. On this particular day, I had an unread message waiting for me from someone named Terell Buyck. He looked very familiar to me and I remembered we both went to Bishop Mcnamara. Wait a sec. . .is that the same guy I saw in the Fine Arts building one day? I was headed to my African dance class and the theater class was running over time. Just as I thought, he was 100% the same person standing on stage as my class waited. Huhhh, . . . who would've thought we would be where we are now just from simply passing by. We shared messages back and forth for the remainder of that night and soon exchanged numbers. From that day on, we talked everyday and began to develop a genuine friendship and we have been inseparable ever since.
It all started on Easter Sunday when I realized I wanted to spend the rest of my life with her. We had been together for 7 years and I was still deeply in love as I was when we met. When I had realized this, I immediately began planning on how to make this work. What I quickly found out is that when you walk with God, he will make the impossible, possible and the unimaginable, present. The next day I rushed to work to tell my brothers the good news. They were all excited and gave nothing but props. For two weeks straight we talked about when I would ask her. The following Saturday I got up early as usual to go to the gym, but I knew I was going to price some rings. I don’t know how but during this pricing I ended up purchasing her ring! I was going crazy, Like what… I was excited, but nervous at the same time because I knew her nosey butt would find out sooner or later! So, I quickly went into overdrive, thinking of my next move. God was definitely speaking to me. I left the ring shop and went directly to the cemetery. I wanted to show my respect and appreciation by going to speak with Brittany’s father and ask for his approval. We had a nice conversation and I graciously received his blessing. That night I asked Britt if she wanted to go to one of her favorite restaurants, Mike’s American Grill. She was not feeling up for it, but I talked her into going. I couldn’t let all these blessing go to waste. So while we were sitting there waiting on our food, I showed her a picture on my phone I had taken earlier. Mid conversation, I said I went to ask for his blessing!!!!! As she looked with uncertainty, I stood up in front of everybody and kneeled with a suede box in my hand and said,… Brittany Alexis McCoy, Will you marry me?
The day we choose to spend the rest of our lives together. The day we share a celebration of love with our friends and family. The day we stand before God and vow to Him that we will cherish His gift of Holy Matrimony and commit wholeheartedly and unconditionally to one another.
