We met at Shippensburg University in Shippensburg, PA. We both joined greek life, he joined Theta Xi and I joined Kappa Beta Gamma. I am not positive on the exact time that we met, but I am sure it was at a mixer between our sorority and fraternity. During college, we did not date each other nor really became good friends. We knew of each other and each always thought the other was "cute". There is one night that sticks out in my mind from college. It was parents day at my sorority where parents are invited to come for the day and can choose to stay and drink with everyone. My parents came as usual and Theta Xi ended up coming by including Shane Lukenda. At one point in the night, it was getting late and all who was left at the sorority house was my parents, me, and Shane. Not sure how it happened but I remember my mom looking at me and said: " What about that guy? He's cute!" At the time, he was with someone else and it would not have worked out. But timing is everything.. and we found our happily ever after with each other 4 years after we graduated from college and FINALLY began dating (after years of liking each others pictures and randomly texting).
My future in-laws gifted us all a cruise to Bermuda in May 2019. Our cruise was set to sail on May 18th, but they reported to us that it would be delayed a day for boarding due to a medical emergency on board from previous passenger. (Later to find out it was due to a guy who fell down a flight of steps and broke his nose..) Unknowing to me, this delay really put a wrench in Shane's proposal plans and I could not understand why he was so irritable and anxious. I kept saying "Knock it off, we are vacationing" (lol) Once we were able to actually board, the sun had already set and it was dark out. We went to a deck bar with the family to cheers to the start of our vacation. The family decided we should do pictures and went down to the side where you could see the New York City skyline all lit up. As pictures seemed to be completed, I tried walking away toward the bar area when Shane asked me to stay and admire the skyline with him (which now I am getting suspicious). In front of family and loved ones, Shane got on one knee and told me how much he loved me and proposed. I believe I was in shock but obviously said YES right away! We could not have been happier and there could not have been a better way to start off our trip than with getting engaged!!
