Mitch and I have been in each others lives for a very long time. We met in 5th grade where Mitch would annoy me by calling me the wrong name on purpose. Our paths merged again in junior high when we began hanging out in the same friend group, many who will be in the wedding party. Things started heating up around senior year of high school when Mitch and I decided to go to the prom together and during that summer we started dating on July 4th, 2013. After two years of long distance at different colleges, I made the decision to switch schools and come to the University of Iowa where Mitch was already a student. Here in Iowa City, we really grew into the young adults and the partners that we are today. During this time we started living together and finished college. After graduation, we found jobs and we became proud parents of a beautiful son (our golden retriever, Ruger lol) who is our current pride and joy! We are excited to finally become husband and wife after nearly 7 years of dating and celebrate with all who have watched our relationship grow and mature over the years!
So when it came time to propose to Brittany, I knew I wanted to surprise her. Brittany and I had been talking about marriage for a long time in our relationship. I knew once we finished college, she would be anticipating a proposal closely after, so I decided to wait a little. I know how important family is to Brittany so I wanted to include them in the event, especially Brittany's sister, Alyssa. Alyssa was away for a Disney internship opportunity and was planning to come home for super bowl weekend to visit family. I decided that this would be the perfect time to surprise Brittany and propose in front of her family. I proposed just before half-time and caught Brittany completely off guard, which is a rare feat. We followed the proposal with a round of tequila shots, which in the Michalski Family is a tradition for any celebration.
