We were both working at UPMC on separate teams but on the same floor. We passed each other daily in the halls, never said a word to each other just a casual friendly smile as the other passed. Then we had our lucky break. One day, we left work at the same time and rode the elevator together. There were several others in the elevator so of course Michael, being the chatty guy that he is, started a conversation about a “new” movie AntMan. He had it all wrong and Brittany chimed in quickly to correct him... she just cant let anything go! it was our first conversation. It wasn't until weeks later we spoke again at a career fair. We laughed and joked the whole time and then the day was quickly over...But fate wasn't done with us yet! Again, weeks later, we connected to work on a position to find a skilled IT candidate. Brittany took Mike out for a drink as a thank you for the help and now we re getting married.
When Michael was planning how he’d ask Brittany, he wanted it to be somewhere different. They were already planning a trip to Jamaica and Michael thought it was a great opportunity to ask! He booked a private dinner on a dock overlooking the ocean; this is where he’d ask her. All the specifics weren’t planned out, what to say, how and when, he just thought he’d “wing it”! Along with the ring, Michael also bought Brittany a necklace with a diamond pendant. His thought was to give her the necklace, say something cute, and then moments later get down on one knee with the ring. What really happened couldnt have been further from that plan. Before dinner, Michael gave the ring to the butler and asked them to bring it out during desert. He was nervous and having trouble making conversation. They just finished Hors d’oeuvres and he couldn’t keep his mouth shut, he told her he loved her and said there was a surprise. He gave her the necklace and made a stupid joke about it being the diamond she wanted! She was NOT HAPPY. She thought, it’s not happening! No proposal, no ring, just a necklace. You could cut the tension with a knife. It was a long time until dessert. It felt like hours, conversation was tough and Micheal couldn’t recover. Why Brittany didn’t throw Michael into the ocean and storm off is a miracle. But, finally, desert came and the ring was there! Michael said, “there’s one more surprise”, he picked the ring up and got down on one knee. She was thrilled! The roller coaster ride was over, everyone survived! She said yes!
