The hotel (along with the adjacent Norumbega Park Conservation Area) sits on the site of the former Norumbega Park, once one of the region's most popular amusement parks and the home of the Totem Pole Ballroom (which hosted performances by Frank Sinatra, Benny Goodman, and other music greats).
