At the start of 2020 Kyle made one of the most significant decisions of his life, knowing he wanted to spend the rest of his life with Brittany, he purchased an engagement ring. Kyle and Brittany share a love of the outdoors, so he planned to propose later that summer while they were backpacking on the coast of Washington. Then Covid hit and lockdown orders were put in place. Like so many others, they had to cancel their trip which threw a wrench in the proposal plans. As local restrictions began to ease, Kyle was able to plan another backpacking trip closer to home in his favorite part of Rocky Mountain National Park, Wild Basin. Brittany’s parents then decided to take a road trip from NJ and would arrive in CO the day they finished the trail. They hiked in to a campsite at Finch Lake. The next day was picture perfect with blue skies. Kyle told Brittany he was going to gather firewood and get water. After he returned, he said he had found an ideal spot to have lunch. They walked the trail towards the lake where Kyle showed Brittany to a path in the trees that, earlier, he lined with electric tea lights (no wildfires here). It took them to a grassy area extending into the water like a little peninsula. Kyle turned to Brittany, pulled out the ring box he made by hand, got down on one knee, and asked Brittany to marry him. Brittany didn’t hesitate to enthusiastically say YES! Then, Kyle set up a charcuterie board and popped a bottle of champagne to celebrate and they spent the rest of the day relishing the moment. The next morning, they blissfully hiked out. As soon as they had cell service, they called their families to share the big news. When they got back home, both of their parents were there ready to share in the celebration. That day could not have been more perfect and is one that they will never forget, adding a positive memory to a time, otherwise, filled with so much uncertainty.
