Indian weddings are full of color, tradition, and vibrant style. We encourage you to embrace the opportunity to dress up in beautiful, traditional Indian attire. For Women: Women typically wear colorful saris, lehengas, or kurta sets. Look for rich colors, intricate embroidery, and beautiful fabrics. Bright colors like deep pinks, royal blues, emerald greens, and warm oranges are popular, and jewel tones are a favorite! Avoid wearing plain white or black, as these colors are usually reserved for somber occasions. If you prefer a less traditional look, a long, elegant dress with Indian-inspired details can also be a lovely choice. Please be reminded that red is reserved for the bride. For Men: Men often wear kurtas or sherwanis with a pair of churidar (fitted trousers) or loose, comfortable pants. Kurtas are knee-length, collarless shirts that come in a range of colors and designs. If you’re looking for something more formal, a sherwani—a fitted, often embroidered jacket—can be a great option. Pair your outfit with loafers or slip-on shoes, or go for traditional Indian-style jutti shoes if you'd like to complete the look. Online Shops: www.lashkaraa.com www.azafashions.com www.sarisandthings.com (rentals) Amazon has great options as well!
The Friday Hindu celebration will be primarily indoors. The Baraat (preceding the ceremony) will take place outside before heading into the venue. The Saturday ceremony and cocktail hour will be hosted outdoors, followed by an indoor reception. Weather in Chicago is unpredictable, so there is a possibility all festivities will be held indoors. An email will go out a week before the wedding for guests to plan & pack accordingly.
