We consider Austin Beerworks to be the iconic Austin brewery, and it's manned by some of the most incredible people we know. We highly recommend stopping by to taste their delicious brews and take advantage of the great food truck parked onsite.
We've spent many nights and quarters at Pinballz, a BYOB arcade with multiple locations in Austin. With two floors of retro arcade games to choose from, what more could you wish for? Joe's go-to is Street Fighter, while I usually settle in with Big Buck Hunter.
We love Yard Bar, and we hope to have a small gathering there at some point the week prior to the wedding. This enclosed space allows your dogs to be off leash while you enjoy a beverage or two, and the ever-watchful Bark Rangers are always around to maintain order.
Well folks, this is the place where our story began. Dart Bowl is a simple bowling alley where you'll find an array of kids, amateurs, and downright pros rolling the ball. They've got the greasiest cheese enchiladas in town, $2 beers and the most curious bowling guru I've ever met. Catch a game there if you find yourself with some downtime!
Pinthouse Pizza is one of our favorite places to go for pizza and beers in Austin. Depending on where you are in the city, you can swing in to their S. Lamar or Burnet spot. We recommend the pepperoni and basil pizza with mushroom and green pepper added in. As far as beer goes, you can't go wrong with the Electric Jellyfish, a Pinthouse original.
Ginny's is a sweet little honky-tonk packed into what's essentially a shotgun house. We've had a lot of good memories here, and on any given night you can catch some great live music. We'd call Ginny's a must-see if you're visiting Austin.
Before I met Joe, I spent most of my time weaving through antique shops and vintage stores. My favorite to visit was always Uncommon Objects. It's changed locations over the years, but it's never stopped offering a wide selection of some of the most curious, weird, quirky relics. If you've got an hour to spare, consider perusing the themed alcoves within the expansive shop.
Just down the street from Uncommon Objects, you'll find End of an Ear. Waterloo Records is great but pricey, so Joe will stop in End of an Ear when we're down south and he's interested in looking through some vinyl. We recommend making a two-stop trek to view the great antiques at Uncommon Objects, as well as the great selection of music End of an Ear has to offer.
North Loop is a string of vintage shops, bars, and coffee shops in central Austin. It's where we've both spent a lot of time (and money). I've included just a few of our favorite shops below: -Big Bertha's: An upscale, couture vintage shop owned by one of the sassiest drag queens around -Workhorse: A bare bones bar with great food and drinks -Room Service Vintage: An eclectic, vintage furniture and apparel store with some truly kooky finds -Blue Velvet (vintage clothing) -Revival Vintage -Breakaway Records
If you're looking for a gourmet meal and a sorbet-inspired old-fashioned, look no further than Swift's Attic. The cuisine is upscale farm-to-table, and everything is absolutely delicious. Once you finish dinner, drop into Elephant Room below for some fantastic live jazz music.
Tumble 22 might have the best spicy fried chicken I've had in my entire life. Joe and I find ourselves there without fail, and we can't recommend it enough. I personally vouch for their sandwiches, stellar sides, and incredible in-house pies.
