How We Met

Always Bring a TV To College...

Brittany and Danny both transferred to UCLA in the Fall of 2012, and were lucky enough to be placed next-door to each other in their dorm. Brittany was actually one of the first people in the building that Danny saw as he was moving in with his parents and sister, and he immediately thought to himself "wow, it really is true that the girls are prettier down in L.A." If you ask them, both Danny and Brittany will tell you that they were the more awkward of the two when they first met. It was a pretty typical love story after that... Brittany talked about how much she loved watching TV, so Danny went out to Target the next day and bought a TV for his dorm room. If Brittany's roommate Emily had brought her own TV to school with her this wedding most likely would not have ever happened... The two began watching almost exclusively horror movies together, each one too nervous to tell the other that they hated scary movies and were having nightmares. After they had watched all of the horror section on Netflix (and been sleep deprived for about 3 months) they moved on to watching old episodes of Seinfeld and Wheel of Fortune, which were far less frightening. Danny finally ended up asking Brittany out on a date during the Spring quarter of their Junior year, which consisted of dinner and a round of mini-golf. The moment Danny won Brittany over was during this mini-golf game, when he decided that he would show off to her by jumping over a large bush somewhere around the 11th or 12th hole after Brittany's ball went off the course. Unfortunately, Danny does not jump very high. He caught both feet on the bush and fell face first into the ground... Danny has been trying to convince Brittany that he could have made it ever since, and will still try to jump over anything that she thinks is too high for him to make. They have verified that Danny can jump over EVERY bush at the venue, so hopefully there won't be any incidents during the wedding.

The Proposal

Just A Regular Dinner With The Family

Danny's proposal to Brittany would not have happened without the help of her parents, Steve and Shelly. At the time, Brittany was in Law School in Orange County and Danny was taking Paramedic classes in the Bay Area, so a Facetime or text message proposal seemed like the only way... While Danny was talking with Steve and Shelly on the phone to ask for their blessing, the three came up with the idea for a surprise proposal in Orange County at one of Brittany's favorite restaurants with her parents and siblings there to watch. With the plan set, Steve started looking for nights that would work so that everyone could make it. While Danny was at home looking at rings to buy, he got a call from Steve with a question that he had not considered... "Do you think your parents would want to come too?" At this point Danny had only mentioned to his mother that he was thinking about proposing, so when he asked her if she wanted to be there when he did it it's with little surprise that she shouted "OF COURSE." The date was set, reservations were made, and Danny, his mom, dad, and Claire drove down to OC on Friday, 9/21 to meet the Jones family for dinner. They arrived at their hotel and Danny changed into his suit and put the ring in his pocket. The Joneses got to the restaurant and were seated early, while Danny's family was driving there from their hotel. Steve had Brittany sit so she was facing away from the door, so she didn't see Danny's parents and sister as they came out to the patio where they were sitting. Danny came in next, and got down on one knee and tried to deliver the speech as he had practiced so much during the drive. Unfortunately, neither him or Brittany remember what he said, as they both had their heads spinning in a hazy dream. Danny's mom was tasked with filming the proposal, but accidentally had her phone set to picture instead of video when the time came... No one knows what was said during the moment, but it must've worked because she said yes!
