We met for the first time in 2011 through a mutual friend. We were instantly drawn to each other and quickly became close. Very soon after the first time meeting we would meet up at local rec centres to hangout. We were 12 years old. Brenden was the first boy I ever kissed, and I knew I loved him even when I was a little girl. On December 7, 2015 Brenden invited me to his house. He gifted me a kinder surprise egg as soon as I got there and bashfully sat back on his bed. Inside the kinder surprise was a tiny kangaroo and 5 small pieces of paper that read “will you be my girlfriend?” I still have it to this day. We graduated together and went to prom as each other’s date. In 2019 Brenden moved into my parents basement suite with me so that we could be together every day. Since then, we have ridden horses together in Banff, been to national sports games in Chicago, renovated our home, made it through major heartbreaks and got our sweet puppy William. On our 8 year anniversary, Brenden took me on a weekend getaway to Harrison. We had a beautiful evening in the hot springs and then got ready for dinner. Before our reservation, we went for a walk to look at the lights that were set up for Christmas. Brenden asked someone to take photos for us and while they were taking them, he spun me around and then got down on one knee to propose. For the rest of the night, we laughed, cried and reminisced about how far we’ve come since 2015, when we were just two kids in love. In the future, we hope to prioritize travelling to experience new cultures and broaden our horizons before settling down in our own home and raising children.
